Vanishing Point Rules

VP was touted to be the best racer in terms of graphics, bar none. All of the screen shots that were released while it was still in development were amazing, to say the least. It looked like Acclaim, who is known for making sub-par games, might actually have a bona-fide hit on its hands. Development dragged on for quite a while beyond what was originally scheduled, and VP missed its window of opportunity. Most gamers pass it off as “another racing game”.

As a fan of the racing genre, I had to give this game a try. It looked very nice, and the features seemed to add the much-needed replay value. I had read some not-so-good reviews on the web, but I disregarded those (something I rarely do) and bought the game anyway.

While frustrating at first, VP offers a very rewarding experience to those who can bear playing with some sloppy control. We’re not just talking a little sloppy here; we’re talking horrendously sloppy. Sloppy to the point that you may want to put the controller through the TV. But, as I said earlier, god things come to those who wait.

Due to the aforementioned control problem, I have to give Vanishing Point a “rental only” recommendation. I personally found the game to be very enjoyable, but that control will turn a lot of people off. Those of you who are joneseing for something different, give VP a try. It’s really not that bad.
