Pros:  Lot's of features.

Cons:  Has to be Restarted constantly

The Bottom Line:  Unit is so/so. Dell Support is crummy. Would not recommend buying.

Author's Review

I have owned a Dell Axim x51 for eighteen months. Overall, it has worked OK. This is the second unit I have had, as the first was returned to Dell and replaced with this unit.

I only decided to keep this unit as I had lots of difficulty with the original unit, and finally decided to act on Dell's twenty-one day "no questions" return program.. Only problem was....I was at twenty-four days since I ordered the unit. No can do...I was told. Twenty one days starts when you consummate your order. Shipping days, it's on a weekend...etc.. etc...they count as part of the twenty-one days. "OK...that wasn't quite explained to me when I placed the order...but Buyer Beware."

Mind you I was on the phone every 2-3 days with Dell's Customer Support Dept....following Dell's recommendations to try to get my unit to Sync, quit shutting down....overall, just not working very good. All the while the ticker is running on the twenty-one days. When I finally decided to return the unit, and Dell acknowledging all my problems, the best they would do was offer me a replacement unit for my original "lemon." I won't take up space describing the hassles with Dell's Return Program....lets just say that is does not go smoothly.

So, I am the proud owner of this Dell Axim x51. It has worked OK, and has lots of features that I have not really used. I suppose, as you can tell, I just have really not been too enthused about trying them.

This unit is an improvement over the first unit in one regard...it only shuts down and has to be restarted 2-3 times a Day, versus the original unit doing so 7-8 times a day. Mind you, I owned IPAQ units for 3-1/2 years with NEVER having to restart them. Heck, I only had to restart my old Casiopea 500, 5-6 times in two years. It is annoying to say the least!

So, my final conclusion....I am convinced that "AXIM" must mean "RESTART" in Latin.

Look around...there has to be better units out there.
