A Brand New Adventure...Or Is It?

by  nighthawk205,   Sep 21, 2004

Pros:  Great game, new additions, same exciting adventure.

Cons:  Game starts off slowly and some gym leaders are too easy.

The Bottom Line:  The "new" Red and Blue version is definitely an improvement in the Pokemon universe and any die-hard fans should own this game.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Well here we go again, I must catch 'em all! To some people (including me), the Pokemon games are very fun and original. This game is no exception. You get the chance to play the old red version revamped and with new additions. Your goal is still the same though: be the best trainer ever.
As usual with Pokemon games, you get to start off by picking one either the grass Pokemon Bulbasaur, the water Pokemon Squirtle, or the fire Pokemon Charmander. Whichever you choose, your rival picks the opposite type. You start to raise your Pokemon and then catch more. Unlike in the Red and Blue versions, you can now get Pokemon from the red, blue, gold, silver, ruby, and sapphire versions. You just can't catch all of them in FireRed. Most need to be traded using Pokemon Colosseum or Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire.
There are a few new additions to the game. An obvious addition is the new graphics. Now, trees look like trees and buildings look like buildings. They are more up-to-date and very nice looking.
Also, there are a set of islands that are named by numbers (One Island, Two Island, etc.) and on each island, there is a quest that you can go on to get a prize. There are also newer Pokemon that you can only find on the islands.
What I believe is the best new addition to the game is some of the new items. Like in the Ruby and Sapphire games, you can obtain berries in this game. They can help out your Pokemon by healing them or curing a status problem. Another new item is the Vs. Seeker. With this, you must take a certain amount of steps to "charge" the Seeker, and after you use it, any trainers in your sight of vision will jump up and down if they would like to fight you again. This can help you out a lot if you need to raise your Pokemon some more.
The sound in Pokemon FireRed has not changed much from the original Red Version. The songs are the same old songs, but they sound much better.
Although some people believe that this is the same old game and don't want to touch it, I highly disagree. With the new additions and revamped graphics, the game is only about 60% the same game that it was before. It is almost like you are reliving the adventure, or even starting the adventure right from the beginning.
